The Very Busy Politicians in Washington DC

By Congressman Ron Paul, TX

With a faltering economy, multiple wars, and the approaching demise of the dollar’s reserve status, there are more than enough problems to keep politicians in Washington working day and night. In between handing out cash for clunkers and nationalizing healthcare, the administration is busy sending more troops overseas, escalating existing wars, and seeking out excuses to start new wars. Congress is working on “urgent” legislation to address crises like healthcare reform and climate change. The reforms are so very urgent that legislation must pass swiftly with no time to read the bills even though the new laws wouldn’t take effect for several years! Meanwhile, the Federal Reserve is busy dealing with our dollar crisis by printing up more dollars.

Jury Rights in New Hampshire

FIJA ourtreach has spread over NH. FIJA stands for the Fully Informed Jury Association (http://fija.org). There have been outreach events at the Seacoast, Manchester, Concord, Grafton County and Keene. What is this information that has activists all over the state going out on early mornings to get in the hands of potential jurors?

Did you know that when you are a juror, you have the right to judge not only the facts of the case, but the law itself? This is what is known as jury nullification, that is, a law can be nullified by a jury. Lysander Spooner wrote in Trial by Jury:

It’s Not the People, It’s the Machine

"Government is an agency of force which can and must be employed against every deviationist. And this is only to say again that the government must oppose the individual. Therefore the "good" man in government is like a priest with a machine gun. The mechanism does the harm. The man who operates it merely pulls the trigger." ~Robert LeFevre, The Nature of Man

How the Feds Imprison the Innocent

Authors of serious books seldom have cause to celebrate, but Larry Stratton and I have two reasons to open the champagne. Crown Publishing, a division of Random House, has announced a second printing of the second edition of The Tyranny of Good Intentions, and the noted civil libertarian and defense attorney, Harvey Silverglate, has just published a book covering many of the same legal cases and vetting our conclusion that in the United States every American is in grave danger from unscrupulous prosecutors who target the innocent.

The Real Reasons Behind Fed Secrecy

By Congressman Ron Paul, TX

Last week I was very pleased that the Financial Services Committee held a hearing on the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, HR 1207. The bill has 295 cosponsors and there is also strong support for the companion bill in the Senate. This hearing was a major step forward in getting the bill passed.

I was pleased that the hearing was well-attended, especially considering that it was held on a Friday at nine o’clock in the morning! I have been talking about the immense, unchecked power of the Federal Reserve for many years, while the attention of Congress was always on other things. It was gratifying to see my colleagues asking probing questions and demonstrating genuine concern about this important issue as well.

'Contempt of Cop'

"The police are to the government as the edge is to the knife," insists sociologist David Bayley, who apparently couldn't explain why the typical tax-feeder isn't the sharpest blade in the cutlery drawer.

One suitable example is the specimen who ruined what was an otherwise pleasant drive to northern Idaho last Friday night (September 18) – a fellow whose finely honed sense of unearned privilege coexisted with an intellect whose acuity was roughly the same as that of a rusty butter knife.

I was part of a small group traveling to the tiny but beautiful village of Potlatch, where I was to give the keynote address at the Liberty Roundup, a forum featuring candidates for state and congressional offices.

Trade Wars and Protectionism are not Free Trade

By Congressman Ron Paul, TX

Two weeks ago, both the administration and the Fed announced with straight faces that the recession was over and the signs of economic recovery were clear. Then last week, the president made a stunning decision that signals the administration’s determination to repeat the mistakes of the Great Depression. Much like the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs that set off a global trade war and effectively doomed us to ten more years of economic misery, Obama’s decision to enact steep tariffs on Chinese imported tires could spark a trade war with the single most important trading partner we have. Not only does China manufacture a whole host of products that end up on American store shelves, they are also still buying our Treasury debt.

Why Pacifism

By Jacob Halbrook

What “I am” depends largely on who is asking me and the context of the conversation. Sometimes I am an anarchist, sometimes a pacifist, sometimes a libertarian, and sometimes a Tolstoyan Christian. Sometimes I am even a Ron Paul Republican. These may seem highly disparate labels, but I hope there is one common thread in each: advocacy of peace and non-violence; opposition to war and government.

Fascism: Boston Style

I keep wondering, just how stupid are the American people? Pretty dense, apparently, and Massachusetts seems to be well ahead of the curve in boneheadedness.

The Boston fascist brigade is proudly talking about how they're trying out a massive registry and tracking system of people who have received a vaccine. The stated goal, of course, is to protect the public health. If, however, you BELIEVE that to actually be the goal, then maybe you should be FORCED to live in Massachusetts, as punishment for being such a moron.

Whether you approach the thing from practical terms, or from a question of motivations, the stated goal is just plain idiotic, while a more sinister motive is readily apparent.
